About this work

Three years after Totem 88, this silvery canvas returns to the same vein in a more abstract mode. A concentric target dominates the composition, surrounded by gold-edged profile faces and a scatter of small totems — masks, crosses, silhouettes — in a grey and silver range unusual for Mathiot.
